Our Capabilities
Contract Pressings
Whether your requirements are for high or low volumes, complex or simple pressed components, single or multi-stage presswork or for extreme precision machining, Westley Engineering is ready to meet them. Our new, purpose-built factory includes a press shop with capacity up to 160 tonnes. We also provide a range of additional operations such as drilling, tapping and machining, together with assembly and packaging of components. Our clients include the Automotive, Aerospace, Batteries, Air Conditioning, Window Hardware and Electronics industries, to name just a few. We work in mild steels, stainless steels and a wide range of non-ferrous metals including nickels, coppers, brasses and phosphor bronze. We are often able to source materials at the required quality and more competitive cost than our clients. We can also source specialist services such as plating or heat treatment and include them as part of a package.
Every stage of the production process is fully planned, from scheduling of materials, work in progress, despatch, spares, stock control and invoicing. This means that we can give accurate answers to our customers’ queries literally in seconds – current work in progress (WIP), despatch dates, stock levels of components and raw materials, as well as historical information about previous jobs.
As you would expect, our vast experience as a press tool manufacturer gives us a considerable advantage when it comes to pressing components accurately and efficiently. As well as our ability to provide the tooling needed for a component, we can also employ customers’ own tooling, using our intelligent engineering to gain improved speeds and accuracies. Not only does this reduce the cost of the components, it also extends the service life of the tool and gives greater control of both the component quality and the efficiency of the pressing operation.
We are an active member of the Midlands Assembly Network ( www.midlandsassembly.net ) – an association of complementary, technically excellent engineering companies whose goal is to supply complex sub-assemblies to the global automotive sector and major OEMs with improved production efficiency and reduced production costs. We are also a member and preferred supplier of Autozone – the ERDF funded project to help West Midlands automotive suppliers improve their businesses.
Precision Machining and Press Tools
Over many years, Westley Engineering has developed its own in-house precision machining facility, acquiring unmatched expertise in the techniques of wire erosion and spark erosion, as well as high precision CNC machining. We now offer these services to our clients on a sub-contract basis, producing high precision machined components in small batches as well as one-offs.
Many of our press tool clients have found that, by involving Westley Engineering’s tool designers at the earliest possible stage, it is often possible to reduce the number of operations, increase the length of production runs, and reduce service and maintenance costs. The same applies to existing tooling: we can usually engineer significant improvements to its performance, either through modification or expert servicing. At all stages we provide total transparency – it’s just like having an in-house tool room, but arguably more efficient and cost-effective.
